I am a HUGE fan of green smoothies. I feel like starting my day with lots of good nutrition and fuel sets me up to be super productive and focused for the day! Plus let’s be honest, getting enough green things in your bod can be hard sometimes between work meetings, busy days running errands, mom life, etc.
I made this smoothie one day when I realized I didn’t have any actual greens in my fridge (or anything else really because I loathe taking two children to the grocery store). I used to be okay with taking them to Whole Foods because they get a balloon…and then one day we let go of the balloon and up into the abyss of the ceiling it went. Lost a bit of my soul that day with that epic tantrum. No, that was not my kid throwing lemons. My kid would never.
Anyway, I remembered I had a little bottle of liquid chlorophyll in my cabinet, which has a lot of the same superfood qualities of actual spinach or kale, plus it has a slight peppermint flavor. I added it to my normal banana/chocolate smoothie combo and it gave it a slight minty flavor. It is so refreshing and indulgent– you MIGHT even be able to convince yourself it tastes like a mint-chocolate chip milkshake. Don’t get carried away, it aint no McDonalds shamrock shake but at least it won’t poison you!
Below is a list of the ingredients I use, but you can always switch it up and make it your own using different superfoods (things like hemp seeds, cacao nibs, etc!)
Ingredients:
1/2 banana
Handful of greens if you’ve got ’em
Big splash of liquid (I typically use unsweetened coconut, almond, or cashew milk)
Big scoop of chocolate protein powder (I use Vega Protein and Greens– you can get it on Amazon!)
1 tbs flaxseed meal
1 tbs chia seeds
15-20 drops liquid chlorophyll (I got mine at Whole Foods and it’s just their house brand)
Big scoop of collagen peptides (great for your skin and hair! I use Vital Proteins)
Lots of ice (and a little water if too thick)
Blend it all up and try not to chug!
P.S: Here are a few of the potential health benefits of liquid chlorophyll:
-Cancer fighting
-Detoxes the liver (good for a morning after too many cocktails. #noshamehere)
-Speeds up wound healing
-Can improve digestion and weight control
-Protects skin
