All of us parents know what it’s like to have a LONG day at home with the kid(s). Sometimes you can start to go a bit stir crazy by about 4pm (break out the wine!!!)
I asked you all on Instagram to share some of your favorite activities to do with your kids to pass the time and keep them engaged. Sharing all the responses below so that we can come back to this post on the days where we are losing our minds a little bit !! 🙂
Places to go:
- Library date– go rent some books or look up your local library’s story time!
- Local museum or science center
- Your local Whole Foods– do some shopping, grab a coffee or lunch and play in the play area
- Walks to get some fresh air
- Walk or drive to the park
- Ice cream or froyo dates
- Home Depot workshop! The first Saturday of every month they hold a free workshop where you can go in, your child can get an apron, and you make something together. My advice: get there EARLY! It gets a little crazy crowded sometimes.
- Trip to the zoo
Things to do at home:
- Car wash with a bucket of soap and water. You can also have the kids wash their bikes, cars, etc.
- A huge roll of white paper! We have this one from Amazon ($18 for 200 feet!) and I roll it out and the boys go crazy with the crayons and markers!
- Dot paints
- DIY bubble refill station
- Playdough
- Bean bucket
- Pipe cleaners in a colander
- Slime
- Transform a room or closet in the house into a playroom where the kids can always walk in and play– no pressure to clean it up!
- Sensory bottles or boxes
- Pour paint in a gallon sized bag. Tape to the window and they can move the paint around in the bag without a mess!
- Dry beans or uncooked noodles in a bin with measuring cups, spoons, etc.
- Dance party! Turn on Go Noodle, Kid’s Bop, etc.
- Make a bird feeder with pine cones and peanut butter
- Baking! Anything and everything. It doesn’t have to be super complicated– try no-bake cookies or peanut butter blossoms (1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg!)
- Kinetic sand in a bin with random stuff to hide and dig for
- Water colors
- Save a big box and get creative with turning it into different things!
- Build a fort
- Go camping in your living room or back yard
- Try a new recipe
- Play balloon basketball or volleyball
- Have a picnic outside
- Make your own pizzas
- Scavenger hunt– inside or outside!
- Paper airplane contest
- Play in the sprinkler
- Make edible baby sand
- Make a jelly dig (stay away from Jell-O with food coloring)!
- Make rainbow spaghetti (great sensory activity)
- Make kid-safe sensory bags with water beads
- Make pudding finger paint
