VIRTUAL HOME/WARDROBE STYLING

Winter Wardrobe Staples

by | Jan 12, 2019 | Fashion

I’ve gotten quite a few requests to share what my winter wardrobe “staple” pieces are. I’m always trying to move toward a “less is more” mentality when it comes to my closet– investing in versatile pieces that I will get some use out of, versus buying a bunch of cheap crap that will fall apart after one wash.

You can hover over the image above to shop any of these items, or click on anything in the product carousels below!

A Good Pair of Leggings

A good pair of leggings are something that I could not live without in the winter! I wear them constantly, whether it be dressed down with athleisure, or dressed up with a sweater dress and booties.

My all-time favorite leggings are the Spanx faux leather leggings, but I also really love Zella and Express leggings which are a little more affordable. Below are a few of my favorite options!

Over-The-Knee Boots

I discovered these Goodnight Macaroon boots this year and you guys, I cannot even tell you how good they are. They are worth every single penny! No matter your height/size, they will stay up and are so flattering. I’ve read TONS of reviews from other people that have completely different body types, and every single person raves about them!

They’re an investment, but if you sign up for their emails you’ll get 20% off your order, and they currently have 30% off the entire store!

Loafer Mules

I love a good pair of slip-on shoes! They’re so convenient, and I think they look so adorable with a pair of skinny jeans. I have a black studded pair and I love how they make any outfit look a little more edgy and dressed up!

A Big Cozy Blanket Scarf

I have a big red blanket scarf from Anthropologie (linked below) and I can’t even tell you guys how much use I’ve gotten out of it. And it is so warm! I used to buy super cheap scarves because I just wanted to have a ton of them, but I realized that they kind of suck. Once I invested in a nice big warm one, I realized how much of staple it is to have during the winter.

Leather or Suede Moto Jacket

I’ve had the same leather jacket for about three years and it is still in perfect condition and I wear it multiple times during the winter! I will wear it for a night out instead of a big puffer coat to keep me warm, or will throw it over a graphic tee with some white sneakers and jeans for a more casual look.

A Few Fitted T-Shirts

I feel like I can never have enough white v-neck tee shirts. I absolutely love the ones from Madewell– they’re one of the only brands I’ve found that don’t shrink up when you wash them. I also get a lot of wear out of the handful of graphic/band tees I have– love them with a pair of jogger sweats or distressed jeans with a jacket layered on top!

A Great Quality Beanie

Of course a winter hat is great to keep you warm– but it’s also an adorable accessory with any outfit! I usually sport mine most when I’m having a greasy hair day 🙂

Trench or Teddy Jacket

You guys know I LOVE my teddy jacket (linked below). I seriously wear it even more than I wear my nice Patagonia winter coat these days! I also love a good trench coat– I think they add a touch of class to any outfit.

Jeans that Fit Perfect

Everyone has different body types, but overall I think it’s so important to find a comfortable pair of jeans that fit well! Jeans that don’t fit you nicely can be so unflattering and no one wants that 🙂 Take the time to try them on. The two pairs that I get the most wear out of are my distressed and black skinny jeans (both from Abercrombie– I am a huge fan of their denim!)

Comfortable White Sneakers

White sneaks are quite the trend right now– but I’m not about to pay $500 for dirty looking sneakers like Golden Goose. I love my classic Adidas with the subtle black stripes! Here are a few other affordable options:

Leopard Booties

I absolutely love the fact that leopard print is in style! I bought a pair of leopard booties in the fall and have worn them a ton. You’ll be surprised at how many outfits they go with– especially if your wardrobe consists of a lot of neutrals like myself!

Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like for me to add in the comments below! I’ll continue to make these as the seasons and trends change over time.
