VIRTUAL HOME/WARDROBE STYLING

Holiday Home Decor Tour!

by | Dec 8, 2018 | Home

I remember the first year we moved into our house, we bought so many Christmas decorations.  We kept saying “we will only have to buy things once!” and “next year we won’t have to buy a THING.”

I was wrong about that– haha.  Every year I end up wanting to add a little something extra, or switch things up a little bit.  It gets boring when it looks the exact same every year, right?  At least that’s what I tell my hubby 🙂

This year I ended up buying a new tree for our living room.  We’ve had a huge 10 foot tree in there the past few years and to be honest, it was kind of a piece of sh*t.  AND it was so big that it made rearranging our furniture in there super awkward.

SO, this year I decided we were going to invest in a nice new tree that wasn’t cheap and wouldn’t fall apart in two years.  I knew I wanted a flocked tree, so I did some research and came across King of Christmas. They are pretty well known for their high quality flocked trees, and at the time I was looking they were all 50% off!

I LOVE the way the flocked tree turned out.  I had planned to add some pops of red to it originally, but ended up just keeping it neutral because I thought it was so pretty without the color.  Shocking right? ME? NO COLOR? Never!

Another new decor idea I tried this year was adding a real garland to our built-in shelving in our living room.  I bought this 20 foot garland at our local Giant Eagle.  The key with this is not letting it die. I kill all plants.  I don’t know how I manage to keep humans and dogs alive because I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life.  BUT the key with the real garland is a spray bottle of water– spray it on the ends every couple of days to keep it fresh.

Last new addition to the living room decor this year was this galvanized bucket that I found at Homegoods.  It was $19.99 and I’m thinking I can find a way to make it work as a good decor piece year-round!  I got all of these branches at Michael’s one day when they were all 70% off.  The birch logs are actually from a local grocery store (Kroger!)

Moving to the kitchen: I added this super pretty pinecone garland to our kitchen.  I got inspired by a random post I saw on the ‘gram, and set out to find some good quality, affordable garland. I found this at Hobby Lobby when they had all their Christmas decor 50% off!  They’re 6 feet long and I ended up using six of them.

The dining room is my favorite room of our house.  I love all the natural light and how it’s open to the kitchen.  We added a tree in this room last year because we spend so much time this area of the house!  I wanted to cozy it up with a tree (you can’t see the living room tree from this space).  It’s also in front of the windows that face the road/driveway, so you can see it when you drive up to our house 🙂

As you can tell, I did end up buying some new decor, but it’s so easy to find things on major sale and not completely break the bank.  I sign up for my favorite home retailers’ emails and keep my eye out for when they have their decor on major sale!  You can also buy things after Christmas for super cheap and store it for next year.
